(제네바 2016년 10월 24일 PRNewswire=연합뉴스) 오늘 제네바에서 열린 제135회 국제의원연맹(Inter-Parliamentary Union, IPU) 회의와 관련 모임에서 아랍에미리트 연방평의회는 올 12월 12~13일 아부다비 Emirates Palace 호텔에서 국제 여성 국회의장 정상회담을 개최한다고 IPU와 공동으로 발표했다.

50명의 여성 국회의장이 참석하는 이 독특한 회의는 ‘미래 구축을 위한 연합’이라는 주제로 성 평등, 경제 불평등 및 편협 같은 핵심 문제를 위한 실천 가능한 권고에 초점을 맞출 예정이다. 이 정상회담에서는 정부, 학계, 과학, 국제기관 및 시민 사회를 포함한 여러 부문의 주요 사상적 리더들이 주도하는 일련의 패널 논의를 통해 법적 수단으로 해결책을 시행할 통일된 전략을 구상한다.
이 정상회담을 위한 IPU 안건과 관련해 IPU 회장 Saber Chowdhury는 “FNC를 주재한 최초의 여성이자, 아랍 세계 최초의 여성 국가의회 의장인 Al Qubaisi의 초청을 받아 올해 많은 여성 국회의장이 아랍에미리트에서 열리는 이번 정상회담에 참석할 예정”이라며 “아랍 세계에서 열리는 이번 정상회담이 평화와 안전을 지키고, 관용을 도모하는 방법을 안내해줄 것으로 기대한다”고 말했다.
여성 국회의장 Dr. Amal Al Qubaisi는 이번 정상회담과 관련해 제네바에서 “국제 여성 국회의장 정상회담은 경제와 사회를 바꾸는 메가트렌드에 대해 논의하고, 이들 메가트렌드가 낳는 기회를 비롯한 큰 과제에 대해 토의하며, 최상의 행동 방침을 정하는 플랫폼”이라면서 “리더로서 우리는 더 크고, 나으며, 앞서 나아가는 사고를 해야 한다. 이번 정상회담을 통해 포괄적이고, 대표적이며, 현실적인 미래를 위한 지속가능한 비전을 구축할 수 있는 토대를 만들고자 한다”고 언급했다.
IPU와 아랍에미리트 연방평의회가 공동 개최하는 이번 정상회담은 아부다비 선언으로 막을 내릴 예정이다. 아부다비 선언은 전 세계 국회가 협력해 현재 및 미래 과제를 대상으로 촉구할 것으로 예상된다.

Abu Dhabi to Host the World’s Largest Gathering of Women Speakers of Parliament

GENEVA, October 24, 2016/PRNewswire/-- At the 135th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly and Related Meetings in Geneva today, the UAE Federal National Council along with IPU announced The Global Summit of Women Speakers of Parliament, set to take place at the Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi on 12-13 December 2016.

This unique gathering of 50 women Speakers of Parliament will be held under the theme “United for Shaping the Future” and will focus on framing actionable recommendations around key issues such as gender inequality, economic disparities and intolerance. Through a series of panel discussions led by key thought leaders from sectors including government, academia, science, international organizations and civil society, the Summit will devise a unified strategy to implement solutions through legislative means.
Speaking about the IPU’s agenda for the Summit, IPU President Saber Chowdhury said: “We are delighted that the women speakers will meet this year in the U.A.E. at the invitation of Speaker Al Qubaisi, the first woman to preside over the FNC and the first woman Speaker of a national parliament in the Arab world.
