(부바네스와르, 인도 2018년 1월 16일 PRNewswire=연합뉴스) Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT)[http://kiit.ac.in/ ]의 자매기관인 Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS)[https://www.kiss.ac.in/ ]가 인도 기관으로서는 유일하게 ‘제18회 Energy Globe World Award - 2017’에서 상을 받았다. Energy Globe World Award는 환경 분야에서 가장 중요한 상이다. KISS는 이달 16일에 이란 테헤란에서 열린 시상식에서 상을 받았다. 시상식에는 60개국 이상이 참가했으며, 전 세계로 중계됐다.

KISS는 대규모 요리에서 발생하는 생태적 발자국을 줄이는 초록 프로젝트를 인정받아 ‘불’ 부문의 수상자로 선정됐다. 이번 Energy Globe World Award에서는 5개 부문(땅, 불, 물, 공기, 청년)에 걸쳐 178개국에서 출품된 2,000개 프로젝트가 경합을 펼쳤다. ‘불’ 부문의 세계 결승 진출팀은 인도, 태국 및 스페인이었다. 고위급 심사위원단은 철저한 평가 끝에 KISS를 수상자로 선정했다. 이로써 KISS는 이 상을 받은 인도 유일의 기관이 됐다.

KISS는 바이오가스 시설, 증기 기반 조리 시스템, 태양열 난방시스템 및 우수(빗물) 보존시스템을 통해 27,000명의 학생이 먹을 음식의 준비 과정을 현대화했다. 세계 곳곳의 정치인, 정책 입안가, 관료 및 노벨상 수상자들이 KISS를 방문하고, KISS가 채택한 환경친화적인 시스템에 대한 찬사를 아끼지 않았다.

KIIT & KISS에서 일하는 Dr. Achyuta Samanta는 수상 소식에 기쁨을 표하며, “KISS가 거둔 이 진귀한 성과는 비단 KISS뿐만 아니라 인도 전체에 있어 자부심이자 영광”이라면서 “지구 온난화로 인해 세계가 환경 위험에 직면한 지금, 모든 지구인이 환경 보호를 불가피한 것으로 느끼고 있다”고 말했다.

Energy Globe Award는 현 에너지 및 기후 변화를 해결한 최고의 솔루션에 수여되는 환경상이다. 1999년 오스트리아의 프로젝트로 시작된 이 상은 이후 매년 170개국 이상에서 수여되는 세계적인 상으로 발전했다. 매년 Energy Globe Award는 먼저 국가적 차원에서 지역별로 수여된다. 5개 부문에서 최고의 프로젝트가 Energy Globe World Award 후보에 오른다. 시상식 개최국은 해마다 바뀐다.

심사위원단은 Edward S. Ayensu 교수, Don Baker, Maneka Gandhi, Peter Rae 및 Franz-Josef Radermacher 등, 수많은 중요 환경 운동가로 구성됐다.

Pride for India as KISS Gets Prestigious Energy Globe World Award 2017

BHUBANESWAR, India, January 16, 2018/PRNewswire/ -- Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) [https://www.kiss.ac.in/ ], a sister-concern of Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) [http://kiit.ac.in/ ] , won the '18th Energy Globe World Award -2017' as the one and only organization from India. The Energy Globe World Award is the most important award in the field of environment. It was presented to KISS at a ceremony, attended by over 60 countries and broadcast worldwide, in Tehran, Iran on January 16, 2018.

KISS won the award in 'Fire' category for green initiatives undertaken by this institute that reduces the ecological footprint for large scale cooking. As many as 2,000 projects from 178 countries competed for this award in five categories: Land, Fire, Water, Air and Youth. India, Thailand and Spain were chosen global finalists for the category 'Fire'. After a thorough evaluation, the high-level jury selected KISS for the award, becoming the only organization from India to win it.

KISS has modernized its preparation of food for 27,000 students through biogas plant, steam-based cooking system, solar heating system and rainwater conservation system. Statesmen, Policymakers, Bureaucrats and Nobel Laureates from across the world have visited KISS and heaped lavish praise on the environment-friendly system adopted here.

Energy Globe Award is an environmental award, honoring the best solutions for current energy and climate changes. It was founded in 1999 in Austria as a local initiative. Since then it has developed in a global award, presented annually in over 170 countries. Each year the Energy Globe Award is presented first locally, on a national level. The best projects are nominated for the Energy Globe World Award, presented in five different categories. The ceremony takes place in a different country every year.

The jury consisted of a number of prominent environmental activists: Prof. Edward S. Ayensu, Don Baker, Maneka Gandhi, Peter Rae and Franz-Josef Radermacher.
