(뉴델리 및 뉴욕 2016년 10월 19일 PRNewswire=연합뉴스) Amity가 뉴욕 주 롱아일랜드 오크데일의 세인트존스 대학교로부터 170에이커 면적의 해안가 캠퍼스를 인수했다. 이 부지는 Great South Bay가 내려다보이는 11개 건물로 구성된다. 캠퍼스 중앙에는 조지 양식의 Bourne Mansion이 들어서 있다. 1897년에 건설된 Bourne Mansion은 Singer Sewing Machine Co. 사장 Frederick Bourne의 해안가 저택이었다.

JFK 공항에서 차로 이동하기 가깝고, 고속도로와 기차를 통해 맨해튼으로 쉽게 이동할 수 있는 좋은 입지를 자랑하는 이 캠퍼스를 놓고 다수의 입찰자가 경쟁했다. 세인트존스 대학교 대표에 따르면, 견고한 교육 배경, 그룹 무결성 및 교수진을 국제적인 교육&연구 교수진으로 이어가고자 하는 비전을 보고 Amity를 선택했다고 한다.
이미 런던, 두바이, 싱가포르, 모리셔스, 남아프리카공화국, 인도 및 기타 여러 국가에 캠퍼스를 설립한 Amity 그룹에 있어 이번 인수는 가장 최근의 확장 노력에 해당한다. 이번 인수는 미국에 진출한 국제 교육기관의 인수 중 가장 큰 규모다. Chauhan 총장은 “Amity는 WASC로부터 매우 높은 미국 지역 승인을 획득한 소수의 아시아 교육기관 중 하나”라며 “이는 Amity가 미국 규제 기관이 기대하는 품질 기준을 잘 준수한다는 것을 의미한다”고 설명했다.

Amity Education Group Acquires 170-acre Campus in New York
NEW DELHI and NEW YORK, October 19, 2016/PRNewswire/ -- Amity has acquired a 170-acre waterfront campus from St. John's University located in Oakdale, Long Island, New York. The property consists of 11 buildings with views of the Great South Bay. At the centre of the campus is the Georgian-style Bourne Mansion, built in 1897, which was the waterfront estate of Frederick Bourne, president of Singer Sewing Machine Co.

According to Dr Aseem Chauhan, Chancellor, Amity, "The Amity New York campus will be a platform for research collaboration, faculty and student exchange programs as well as innovation and entrepreneurship development between institutions in the US and India. The campus will act as a bridge allowing people and organisations to connect and communicate between the US, India and other countries. This includes the large Indian diaspora, which is keen to further its bonds with India."
There were a large number of bidders for the property situated in a premium location in the US, close driving distance from JFK airport and with easy access by highway and train connectivity to Manhattan. As per St John's representatives, Amity was selected as the buyer because of its strong education background, integrity of the group, and the vision to continue the facility as a global teaching and research facility.
This acquisition is the latest expansion by the Amity Group which already has campuses in London, Dubai, Singapore, Mauritius, South Africa, India and a number of other countries. This may well be one of the largest entries of any international education provider into the U.S. "Amity is one of the few institutions in Asia to have the highly prestigious US regional accreditation from WASC, indicating that Amity understands and is aligned with quality standards expected by US regulators," says Chauhan.
