KAFA 와 미네르바는 최근 이 같은 파트너십 계약을 맺었다고 13일 밝혔다. 이 혁신대학은 미네르바의 교육 및 운영 시스템을 종합적으로 적용하는 아시아 최초, 국내 유일의 파트너가 된다.
미네르바의 교육 및 운영 시스템을 채택했다는 국내 대학들이 최근 생겨나고 있지만, 미네르바와 정식 계약을 맺고 그들의 시스템을 전면적으로 도입하는 국내 유일의 고등 교육 기관이 된다.
국내 유수 대학교의 특수 단과대학 형태로 설립되며 부설할 대학교는 추후 선정될 예정이다. 학교 측은 개교 첫해 동아시아 및 아세안 약 10개국의 우수한 학생 100명을 선발하며 점차 확대할 계획이다. 이들에게 경영학, 사회과학, 인문학, 컴퓨터과학, 자연과학 등의 전공과 심화과정으로 구성된 다양한 4년제 학위를 제공한다.
대학설립의 최종 목표는 동아시아 및 아세안 국가의 미래 지도자 양성에 두고 있다. 이를 위해 아시아 학생들이 기존처럼 유학으로 서양 대학 교육을 받기보다 지역에 우수한 교육기관을 설립해 전 세계의 평화 구축과 갈등 완화에 필요한 인지 역량을 키울 방침이다. 또한 공동체를 형성하고 겸손함과 자신감을 조화롭게 발휘할 수 있는 리더십 개발에 역점을 둘 계획이다.
교육 프로그램의 경우 온오프라인 방식을 병행하게 된다. 학생들은 온라인으로 미네르바 핵심 과목과 KAFA- 미네르바 공동 설계 과목을 자기 주도적으로 학습하게 된다. 학생들은 여러 아시아 도시의 기숙사에 거주하며 온라인으로 학습한 지식을 다양한 지역 문제에 적용해 해결하는 현장 프로젝트를 진행한다. 거주 지역은 서울, 포항, 방콕, 싱가포르, 하노이, 마닐라, 시드니 등 11개 도시가 후보로 있다 .

KAFA Partners with Minerva Project to Launch New Higher Educational Institution
SAN FRANCISCO and SEOUL, Korea, Sept. 13, 2022 /PRNewswire/ --The Korea-ASEAN Friendship Association (KAFA) has entered into a partnership with Minerva Project [https://www.minervaproject.com/ ] to build a new educational institution, based on the Minerva model. This is the only comprehensive implementation of the Minerva system in Korean higher education announced to date. The aim of this new educational institution is to equip future leaders in East Asia and ASEAN countries with the cognitive and leadership skills to help solve regional, socio-economic and geopolitical problems through a superior local education rather than rely on traditional educational pathways of Asian students pursuing their education at Western institutions abroad.
The new institution will provide students with the cognitive tool set needed to support peacebuilding, conflict mitigation and resolution locally and globally. In addition it will emphasize the development of Asian-oriented values such as community cultivation and the balance between humility and confidence.
