WEIHAI, China Sept 4, 2025 /AsiaNet=YONHAP/-- At the Shandong Peninsula Southern U Offshore Wind Farm Site in the waters south of Rushan, rows of towering "electric fans" rotate gracefully above the azure waves. They harvest energy from the breeze and channel it tirelessly to the shore.
As wind turbines stand tall in the sea, a thriving wind power equipment manufacturing industry emerges along the coast. Over 50% of the core components in Rushan's offshore wind projects, including turbine units, towers, and submarine cables, are now locally produced under the "Made in Rushan" brand.
At the Shandong Offshore Wind Equipment Manufacturing Industrial Base in Rushan Port, cargo ships loaded with massive turbine units, monopiles, and towers frequently set sail. Inside the assembly workshop of Haili Wind Power Equipment Technology (Weihai) Co., Ltd., workers are assembling a 1,400-ton monopile. "This 8MW monopile is custom-designed for the Shandong Peninsula South Offshore Wind Project," said Tang Chunlei, the company's executive deputy general manager. As one of China's largest offshore wind component suppliers, Haili specializes in producing monopiles and cages. "All our production lines are running at full capacity, and our Phase III project -- focused on offshore substation modules -- will further diversify Rushan's wind energy supply chain," he added.
Nearby, industry giants like Haomai, Mingyang Smart Energy, and CRRC Tongli are equally bustling. Shandong Haomai Heavy Equipment Co., Ltd. launched production this July at its intelligent manufacturing facility for 15,000 tons of high-end offshore oil and gas pipelines. This marks Haomai's third phase investment in Rushan since 2022.
Centered around Rushan Port, the city has gathered over 100 enterprises within nearly 100 square kilometers, aiming to build a specialized offshore wind equipment cluster. The ecosystem now spans the production of turbine units, towers, monopiles and submarine cables, as well as energy storage, training, operation, maintenance, and testing.
This integrated approach has fostered a clustered development model that integrates upstream wind farm development, midstream equipment production, and downstream operations. "In the coming years, Rushan is entering a peak period for offshore wind project deliveries. By the end of this year, the annual output value of offshore wind sector is expected to surpass 15 billion yuan," said a representative from Rushan New Energy Industry Development Service Center.
