XIONG'AN, China Sept 30, 2025 /AsiaNet=YONHAP/-- How will future power grids be dispatched and controlled? Hebei Xiong'an New Area is demonstrating the answer: a fully fiber-optic and 5G-enabled communication network provides complete visibility into operational data, while AI assists in dispatch decisions. The system can conduct a panoramic scan of critical grid points within one minute, accurately pinpoint faults, and rapidly generate load transfer strategies and disposal plans for the distribution network.

"In the dispatch hall, daily operations are organized into timed task chains with smart reminders, while documents like work orders and logs are automatically generated," said Li Haotong, chief dispatcher at the Xiong'an New Area Power Supply Company's Dispatch and Control Center, experiencing firsthand the changes brought by new quality productive forces. "This allows us to focus more energy on ensuring the secure and reliable operation of the grid." On the expansive grid dispatch screen, the vision of a future power grid is clearly visualized.

During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, the Xiong'an New Area has accelerated its construction and development. The construction plan for Xiong'an New Area's new-type power system has been endorsed by a panel of academicians and experts, advancing with sustained momentum. More than 380 key projects and 135,000 households in the new area have benefited from efficient and reliable power supply services, all underpinned by vigorous new quality productive forces.

In the hall of the Electric Power Dispatch and Control Center, Cheng Peng, a young power grid operation mode specialist, is spearheading an initiative to develop a platform for precise carbon measurement and low-carbon regulation of electricity in the Xiong'an New Area. The platform leverages theoretical research achievements from Tsinghua University and has established a carbon emission indicator system covering grid sections, transmission lines, and substations, supporting the implementation of the "dual carbon" goals. It enables dynamic and precise monitoring of carbon emissions from all grid equipment across Xiong'an every 15 minutes.

"With the optimization goal of minimizing the total carbon emissions of the power grid, we effectively reduce the overall carbon footprint while ensuring customers enjoy highly reliable electricity supply. This is achieved by optimizing power generation output, supply methods, and energy storage charging," Cheng Peng explained. "We refer to this operation as our 'low-carbon dispatch strategy'." Since the platform's launch, the Xiong'an New Area Power Supply Company has precisely dispatched resources including one energy storage station, several micro grid-level energy storage devices, and 80 MVA of flexible resources.

Since its establishment, the Xiong'an New Area Power Supply Company has actively fostered a scientific, efficient, open, and pragmatic technological innovation mechanism, and comprehensively deepened all-round cooperation with research institutes and universities. The company has taken the lead in implementing 77 scientific research projects, secured 92 nationally authorized invention patents, registered 25 computer software copyrights, and received 10 provincial and ministerial-level scientific awards.

Aiming to enhance management proficiency, work efficiency, and service quality, the Xiong'an New Area Power Supply Company has accelerated the deployment of new technologies like artificial intelligence and digital solutions. In the first half of this year, its AI Maker Camp has successfully implemented 6 application scenarios, with 12 additional AI use cases currently under active development.

Across the power grid in Xiong'an, innovation is thriving. In the power tunnels, "17+3" types of Internet of things sensing terminals enable comprehensive monitoring and interaction of data related to the tunnels themselves, cable conditions, and the environment. Intelligent equipment, including drones and quadruped robots, conduct integrated air-space-ground inspections, establishing an all-round, 24/7 operational protection network. In the target power grid of the Rongdong area, over 60,000 smart sensors collect real-time data on voltage, current, and temperature, transmitting it to a new-generation power distribution Internet of things platform. Maintenance personnel use this platform for visual inspections and equipment health assessments, significantly enhancing grid operational and maintenance efficiency. These practices in building and maintaining the Xiong'an grid demonstrate the powerful role of new quality productive forces in driving high-quality development.
