[AsiaNet] Library Redefines Cultural Landmark in Hekou District, Dongying

AsiaNet 0201473

DONGYING, China Apr 2, 2026 /AsiaNet=YONHAP/-- Since its opening this Spring Festival, the Hekou District Library in Dongying has drawn a steady stream of visitors, receiving over 1,000 readers daily. Reading rooms are consistently occupied, while intangible cultural heritage (ICH) workshops are fully booked. Blending the quiet charm of books with the vitality of tradition, this library has emerged as a new local cultural landmark.

Inside, distinct zones offer both activity and calm. On the first floor, the ICH experience area hosts hands-on activities such as zodiac calendar rubbings and Song brocade collage, attracting many families. Traditional crafts come alive through intergenerational participation, while a dynamic digital display of paper-cutting art merges heritage with modern technology - now a popular highlight for visitors.

The reading area on the other side offers a serene retreat, where students and young professionals study and recharge. "The atmosphere really helps you focus," one visitor noted.

Behind the scenes, more than 70 student volunteers - recognizable in their red vests - support daily operations, from organizing books to assisting events. The library also extends its reach into communities, delivering reading resources, ICH experiences, and public film screenings to local residents.
From immersive cultural activities to quiet reading spaces, the library continues to enrich public life through diverse programs and thoughtful services. As local officials emphasize, it is evolving beyond a place for borrowing books into a welcoming cultural hub - one where people come, stay, and leave inspired.
